Retrofit guarding

A great deal of otherwise serviceable machinery is running with guarding that predates current standards. Retrofitting is usually straightforward on a machine that is already scheduled for a rebuild, and considerably less disruptive than it appears.

We survey the machine, assess the residual risks, and design guarding that satisfies the standard without making routine access so awkward that operators defeat it, which is the failure mode that matters most in practice.

Access and interlocks

Guarding only works if the access strategy matches how the machine is operated. Interlocked doors are placed around real intervention points, and the safety circuit is designed so that a predictable, frequent task does not require a full line stoppage.
